Oak

Types of Wood

Oak, also known as Red Oak, is a durable hardwood with a strong, open grain pattern and timeless natural character. Its visible texture and classic appeal make it a strong choice for door styles that feel warm, established, and enduring.

Best for
Traditional kitchens, classic door styles, medium to darker stains, visible wood grain, and homeowners who want a natural material with strong character.

Characteristics

  • Prominent open grain with visible texture and movement.
  • Strong and durable, making it well suited for everyday cabinetry use.
  • Accepts stain well, often creating depth and contrast within the grain.
  • Offers a classic wood look that works well in traditional, transitional, and rustic-inspired spaces.

Design Considerations

Oak has a more pronounced grain pattern than smoother species like Maple or Alder. This natural texture will remain visible through most stained finishes and may create more contrast from door to door. If you prefer a quieter, more uniform wood appearance, Maple or Alder may be a better fit.

We recommend viewing an actual door sample with your Merit dealer before finalizing your selection.
